A child is born

My reflection today is on Isaiah 9:6-7

I am always drawn to these verses at Advent for the reference to a child being given to us.

To us a son is given.

Typical observation from one who works with children, eh?

Today I'm pondering the fact that the government will be on his shoulders. I find I am thinking of a tiny baby's narrow shoulders and the hefty weight of government placed upon them; the juxtaposition of fragility and weight. Isn't that just like our God and Father; to inspire Isaiah to write a tender reference to a little one who will take on governmental weight; referencing the repeated ideas through the Bible of the weak being strong, the lowly being lifted up? The unexpected becomes the possible with God.

I love the amazing names given to Jesus - Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace (v6). To lavish such names upon one so small, so fragile, so human.

So my thoughts are brief, but have impacted my day today.

Thank you.
Beauty in simplicity; simply beautiful.
